Katrina Pit bulls
Pulled by BAD RAP
From Lamar Dixon - Gonzales, LA from Sept 22-28

Now Accepting Applications

Despite ongoing efforts to reunite our flood survivors with their owners, we realize most of these dogs are in CA for good. Come December, we'll begin sending unclaimed dogs home with breed-qualified adopters. If you're interested in giving a home to one of these beautiful creatures, please contact us for an application. All dogs have been thoroughly temperament tested and home fostered with other pets, so we understand their personalities as well as our traditionally rescued BR dogs. All have been started on their basic obedience training. Each has been vet checked, de-wormed, and some cases, started on a heartworm treatment.

Link -- Info and Photos About our Trip: Lamar Dixon

Above Left: Jackie (LA3371) Female. This mild mannered girl is living with our ace trainer, Linda Chwistek. She is affectionate, social and sweetly sensitive. Fine with other dogs. She's undergoing heartworm treatment and so far, is holding steady. Once she's out of the woods, we'll begin looking for a new home for Jackie.

Above Right:Red (LA2320) Young Female. This gregarious vixen is a Ball Girl Deluxe. She's happily sharing all the comforts of her doting foster home with a male pit mix. Red came to us healthy (heartworm negative) but is sporting some bum knees and is looking at corrective surgery. She'll need 6-8 weeks of healing and then will be eager to get back to ball play and a search for a new home. 2nd Photo

Above Left: Martin (LA3741) - ADOPTION PENDING!
- Young Male. Martin was pretty shook up about his misadventures in NOLA. He was found in an attic with a dead dog and did his best to stay brave during the stress and chaos of Lamar Dixon. All that's behind him now. He's being fostered in a home with two pit females and adoring humans and is doing fantastic. He's now easing through treatment for an early case of heartworm and will be looking for his new home very soon.

Above Right: Rita (LA144) - Small Female. This little girl's death broke a thousand hearts. She died as a result of her heartworm treatment. We were proud to know her and will never forget her larger than life personality and courageous spirit. Party on, Mighty Rita.2nd Photo

Above Left:Monte (LA2787)- ADOPTION PENDING!
- Handsome, easy going, nobel Monte! He's everybody's favorite Romeo. He acts like a well loved pet, but several attempts to find his owner in NOLA have been unsuccessful. He lucked out by being heartworm negative, but has a couple of bad teeth that we're taking care of. Come December, we'll begin to look for a permanent home for Monte.

Above Right: (LA1752) Delilah -- A healthy young girl with a sweet, gentle nature. No luck in finding her owner(s). We've just started her formal training and will be making her available to a new home in the next couple of weeks.

Above Left: Jake (LA1984) Reunited with Owner!
Great News! ... This handsome male was claimed by his NOLA owner. Jake went to join his relocated family in Austin TX. He was left behind when rushing flood waters forced his family to flee. His owner tattoed his ear before the floods in hopes that it would help reunite them. It did. Now everybody's back together and Jake is getting ready to compete in fun matches in a local dog show. Good luck to Jake, Mark and Family.

Above Right: Louis (LA1904) Sad news ... Louis's temperament was too soft to survive the intense traumas of the flood and aftermath. Due to problematic behaviors, we made the difficult decision to put Louis to sleep after letting him enjoy a month of peace and friendship in his foster home. This loss was a blow to us all. He was a big teddy bear of a dog and will never be forgotten. Sleep well, Sir Louis.

Above Left: Darla (LA540) - Young Female. This sweet young girl - described as 'dingy' by her foster family - is undergoing heartworm treatment. So far, all is well. With some bulldog luck, she'll be looking for a new home by the first of the year.

Above Right: Pearl (LA1809) Mature Female. Pearl was in bad shape when she came into rescue. She was pregnant, emaciated, full of parasites and showed positive for Stage 3 heartworm. She has a constitution of steel and seems to be soldiering through the dangerous treatments very well so far. All fingers crossed for healthier days ahead.

These BR dogs are being fostered in San Diego, CA

Left: Bienet (157742) - ADOPTED!
- Young Female. This girl was transferred to the Easy Bay SPCA's foster program and is living with a foster family that adores her. She is doing well with her second heartworm treatment.
Right: Lucy (LA21156) - ADOPTION PENDING!
- Older Female Aussie Mix. Who says we discriminate against non-pits! Lucy was so brave about her ordeals in the floods and then her stressful days in a Barn full of barking pit bulls that we had to give her an honorary spot in our program. Efforts continue to find her owner, but so far, no luck. She is well loved in a foster home in San Francisco.
