Pit Bull Hall
After 3 Years, Pit Bull Hall at the East Bay SPCA Closes!
We are Re-Opening as the Ambassadog Project
at Oakland Animal Services

After 3 wonderful years working within the East Bay SPCA to place Ambassador Pit Bulls and educate the public, BAD RAP is moving to the open-admisson Oakland Animal Services for a new adoption/education venture called the Ambassador groject.

We had a blast doing Pit Bull Hall and are ever grateful for the opportunity that allowed us place pit bulls like the ones shown below from the Pit Bull Hall kennels. Check back soon for more information on our new focus in a brand new shelter!

Below: A History on Pit Bull Hall - Operated from July 2005 - June 2008:

A Bright New Program
Jointly operated by BAD RAP and the East Bay SPCA

Thanks to the generosity and vision of the East Bay SPCA, we're able to bring our mission to more people and more dogs.

WHAT? 'Pit Bull Hall' is a wonderful new addition to the East Bay SPCA Oakland facility. Available BAD RAP foster dogs represent the breed by rotating through five on-site adoption kennels. Classes about pit bulls and for pit bull owners are already in full swing in the shelter's lovely indoor & outdoor classrooms.

  • WHY? Pit Bull Hall was created in response to the many problems this one over represented breed is facing in the bay area. The EBSPCA and BAD RAP have combined resources towards our shared common goal of wanting to see fewer adoptable pit bulls destroyed due to lack of homes. During this time when over breeding is at an all time high, thousands of pit bulls are caught in a heart breaking cycle of being born, sold, bred, and later abandoned by their inappropriate or ill-prepared homes to our over crowded shelter system. We're challenged to tackle the problem via concentrated education efforts that target the many diverse communities that breed, buy and own pit bulls. By joining efforts, we hope to be part of a larger a solution.

HOW? Through this partnership, Pit Bull Hall can offer:

    1. A Trustworthy Adoption Alternative Pit bull 'shoppers' can feel good about adopting dogs that pass our rigorous criteria. All dogs are home fostered in BR volunteer homes with other animals and kids before they're made Available, so we know each dog well. They represent some of the best of the breed. Adopters receive full support and free training by the pit bull experienced crew of BR.

    2. More Breed Education -- Dog owners are hungry for info and guidance, and we're better able to meet their needs. Classes are underway for parents, for Spanish speaking families, and for first time pit owners. We've added a second weekly Pit Ed Training class and will be able to help more people get their dog CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certified. Available also are our printed materials and knowledgable volunteers who can answer breed questions.

    3. Better Exposure for the Breed -- Pit bulls take a beating in the media, and the Pit Bull Hall offers place of sanity. A curious public can see exceptional breed ambassadors with 'correct temperament.' Media people who want to develop balanced stories about great dogs and the people who care for them will find a great resource at Pit Bull Hall.
